Chinese MMO Bans Men From Playing Female Toons in Game

According to Gaming Today, male players of the MMORPG “King of the World” have now been officially banned from playing female characters. Word has it, that the games publisher Aurora Technology froze the accounts of the male players who have created female characters, but yet females can still play male toons.

Aurora is even going as far as making the person creating a female character to prove their sex via webcam! As if this isn’t going to be easy to bypass, all you need is a female in the room to stand in front of the webcam.

Now personally, I think this is sad. Why would one sex be banned from playing the opposite sex and not the other? Is there an overflow of female toons within the game? Are they trying to balance it out or something? Not a very reliable verification on their part if all they need to do to verify that they are female by showing themselves on a webcam.

I will say this, this is one game that I do not think that I will find myself interested in, nor will some men. As I have stated in previous blogs, women get treated differently in games than men do. We receive special treatment whether we ask for it or not. I am so glad that WoW doesn’t do this. Blizzard has their head intact, thank the stars for that. And for that, I will continue playing!
